Skiplane Fly-In Set For January 27

Snow or no snow

December 21, 2006 - The Oshkosh weather has resembled early spring so far this winter, but we’re hoping that come January 27 we’ll have adequate snow cover for the annual EAA Skiplane Fly-In. But if we don’t, that won’t stop aviation enthusiasts from gathering at EAA’s Pioneer Airport for some mid-winter fellowship, hot cauldrons of chili, and cake to celebrate Audrey Poberezny’s birthday.

If there is enough snow on the ground, skiplanes will be welcome to attend. If the ground remains bare but firm, wheeled airplanes may be allowed to land at Pioneer beginning at 10:30 a.m. (Pilots intending to fly in to Pioneers must contact Sean Elliott at 920-426-4886 to register and receive an arrival briefing.) Or pilots can land at Wittman Regional Airport and use a shuttle service that runs all day to and from Orion and Basler FBOs.

Those driving to the event can simply follow the signs to Pioneer Airport. The event is free and open to the public. A special appearance is expected by the 2007 EAA Aircraft Sweepstakes airplane, the Win Me Aviat Husky. If there is ample snow, it will be equipped with its Wipaire skis.
