First Coupes And Cubs Fly-In At Pioneer

May 7, 2004 - A first took place recently at EAA's Pioneer Airport, something that may lead to more similar-type events in the future. Accompanying the May 1-2 annual spring opening of the historic facility was by a Coupes and Cubs Fly-In. Part of the purpose of the fly-in was to see if pilots could comply with the rather stringent arrival and departure procedures at Pioneer. We're happy to report that no problems were reported and the event was deemed a success.

Even though the weather forecast prevented many of those who planned to fly in, there were more than a dozen vintage Cubs and Ercoupes neatly tied down by noon on Saturday. Several pilots chose to spend the night at the EAA Air Academy Lodge. EAA Museum Director and Air Academy Manager Chuck Larsen saw to it that all overnighters were taken care of.
