January 26, 2004 - Weather in Oshkosh could not have been better for the annual Skiplane Fly-In Saturday, January 24, at Pioneer Airport. Friday’s event-saving snow provided just enough of a soft, white runway for more than a dozen ski-equipped airplanes, which were greeted by Saturday’s low teens, light breezes and sunny, severe-clear skies.

Throughout the day, an estimated 300 people arrived to enjoy superb chili (all was consumed) and refreshments, topped off with birthday cake in honor of EAA matriarch Audrey Poberezny. Plenty of hangar talk was overheard throughout the day between skiplane landings and takeoffs.
About 30 aircraft had registered for the event but many decided to stay home due to a lack of snow at their departure points. Other opted to land conventionally at Wittman Regional Airport and take the shuttle to Pioneer Airport offered by both airport FBOs.
