Lindbergh Collectors Flock to EAA Museum on May 17

May 14, 2003 - If you own an aviation collectible, especially one associated with Charles Lindbergh, the EAA AirVenture Museum is the place to be this Saturday, May 17, when the Experimental Aircraft Association hosts members of the C.A.L./N-X-211 Collectors Society for their annual national gathering. Saturday is the society's "public day," when it will showcase members' extensive Lindbergh collections and help museum visitors discover more about the first man who flew solo across the Atlantic Ocean in 1927 and became an instant worldwide celebrity. More than 1,000 items will be on display.

"This is the first time we've had the opportunity to host the C.A.L./N-X-211 collectors and we are greatly anticipating this one-of-a-kind annual event," said Adam Smith, Museum Director. "This is unlike anything ever held at the museum before and is a great way to prepare for this summer's extensive Lindbergh exhibit coming to EAA."

A major attraction for museum visitors will be the availability of society members and EAA AirVenture Museum staff, who are encouraging visitors to bring their own aviation collectibles that day and participate in an "Aviation Antiques Roadshow"-type setting. The experienced collectors will help owners understand and appreciate those unique aviation artifacts even more.

As part of the festivities, EAA member Verne Jobst - who has spent more hours flying the EAA Spirit of St. Louis replicas than Lindbergh did in the original - will give a special presentation to museum visitors about Lindbergh and his legacy at 11 a.m. on May 17.

All of the May 17 activities are included with regular museum admission. In addition, EAA's Spirit of St. Louis replica will be available for flights at additional cost at Pioneer Airport (weather permitting).
